The SPU-3 verification unit is designed to provide verification of household and utility gas meters of any type from G1.6 to VK-G25. The SPU-3 is a mobile case that provides a compact arrangement of the equipment used and can be used directly at the installation site of the meter being verified without removing it from the gas pipeline.

The principle of operation of the units is based on the linear dependence of the frequency of jet oscillations in the jet generator of the flow converter on the gas flow.As a reference in the installation, a flow meter is used, the principle of operation of which is based on the dependence of the oscillation frequency of the gas jet in the sensor element on the gas flow rate in the installation pipeline. The sensitive element of the meter is a jet autogenerator (SAG), which is a set of plates and channels forming a bistable jet element with feedbacks that provide self-oscillation mode. The vibrations of the jet are converted by a piezoelectric element into an electric pulse signal proportional to the volume of gas passed through the installations. The pulse signal is converted in an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) in the amount of gas volume and is recorded with an increasing total. The verification of gas meters (flow meters) is based on the comparison of the results of simultaneous measurements of the volume (flow rate) of the working medium flow by the meter (flow meter) being verified and the installation connected sequentially to the measuring line.

The SPU-5 calibration unit is designed to reproduce the volume flow unit when checking household and utility gas meters. The verification of gas meters is based on the comparison of the results of simultaneous measurements of the volume of air by the verified gas meter and the installation. The result of volume measurements using the installation is taken as a valid value. Nozzles operating in critical mode are used as a reference in the installation. With the help of each nozzle of the installation, a certain volumetric air flow is set, the value of which depends on the area (diameter) of the nozzle neck.
